Yoga in the Workplace
Before qualifying as a Yoga Teacher I was a trainer in a state of the art Contact Centre environment. I taught Breath and Movement and brought Stress Management Techniques to one of the first Contact Centres in the UK which won an Innovation Award.
Organisations are waking up to providing ways for their staff to access Yoga. I enjoy teaching it in the Workplace. There are so many benefits. My view is that yoga is for every body and I'm passionate about bringing yoga to everyday folk so they can practice Yoga just as they are. The Workplace is a great place to do just that.
I'm keen to introduce people to Yoga who might not think their bodies are the right shape for it. Often people think you have to be very fit and supple and flexible to do yoga. It’s a myth.
What are the benefits of Workplace Yoga?
At work it's easy to fall into a more shallow way of breathing and posture can become poor. Yoga is a great friend to counteract that. This article explains that Yoga at work can provide numerous benefits including:
- Teaches individual stress management
- Improves the immune system and overall health, resulting in decreased absenteeism and sickness levels
- Increases productivity, motivation, and work performance
- Improves decision making and creativity
- Increases energy, mental alertness, and clarity
- Improves stamina
- Improves morale, job satisfaction, and positive thinking patterns
- Improves memory, focus and concentration
- Reduces muscle tension and pain due to sedentary working positions
- Improves flexibility and physical strength
- Improves breathing
- Decreases headaches
- Improves confidence
What to expect in a session?
The overall aim is to do some simple practices and exercises with some tips and techniques to practice at work and at home. We will combine some movement with breathing to feel more relaxed, strong and flexible. No mats are required for this session and participants will not need to get up and down from the floor. The chosen Yoga postures can be done in a chair, or standing so that those less mobile can participate with ease.
This is some of the feedback I have had:
- “It was brilliant to get a fresh perspective after lunch, I felt energised“
- “I could practice this at my own level as a total beginner to Yoga”
- “I didn’t know what to expect and now I might think about going to a class”
- “It was good to do something a bit different with work colleagues, having some fun and learning some tips and techniques to help with wellbeing in a non-threatening environment”
